Connect and Scale: Finding a way to communicate well across all offices with different backgrounds


Trimble has 150 locations around the world, in 40 different countries with a diverse workforce. The solution entering this project was thousands of individual sites and communities being managed by different people in different locations. There was a lack of structure and governance of the content that was being sent to employees.

Process

Interviews, Research & Information Architecture

The process started with conducting stakeholder interviews to understand the end goal and gather business requirements. Research was then conducted to nail down what was needed to launch the platform. Workshops were facilitated to help guide the Trimble project team to make key decisions. The information gained through that process was used to create the information architecture. This required evaluating different personas and user flows to understand how the platform would be used and how it would grow. Workshops were then facilitated to review the proposed architecture, gather feedback from stakeholders and make any necessary changes.

Design, Build & Client Team Training

Mockups were created to be reviewed by the Trimble team, which were used to build the site page templates. These pages would be the base of all pages to be used by content creators within the organization. Design workshops were conducted with the project team to gain feedback and make changes. After gaining approval for these designs, templates were built.

Trainings were created and facilitated covering how to use the templates and the technical capabilities of the platform and user interface. Additional one on one training sessions were set up for those who needed assistance to ensure a smooth transition. In addition to the design trainings provided to stakeholders and content creators, a design style guide was created to be used in creating pages to assist in maintaining the brand guidelines and the overall look and feel of the site.

Outcome

The impact of the new internal communications platform for Trimble was significant. The 30 day active users of the platform was 3,723. Six months later that number was 8,648 with a steady increase.
