Connect

No Central Source of Information

This tech company had the need for an internal communications platform to deliver news and information to employees. There was no central source of information and there was a consistent challenge to find the information needed to perform daily job functions. A current solution was in place that was not meeting the needs of employees.

Process

User Research & Analysis

This organization continued to hear some of the same issues from fellow employees about the need for better communication and how different teams were working without communicating. There was a current intranet solution that did not seem to be meeting the needs of the employees. The implementation of the original platform was done without going through a formal process and there was no proper change management to ensure long term success. Gaining executive buy in was a key challenge in this project.

Surveys were conducted of the users to understand their needs and wants. This helped to identify what content should be in the first phase launch of the platform.

A platform analysis was conducted based on the survey results to determine the best solution. Once a platform solution was determined, stakeholder meetings were conducted to understand the exact needs of each business unit to deliver the content that employees needed and wanted. The site was then mapped out to make sure it was structured it in a way that would be intuitive to the organization, as well as allow for future growth.

Surveys were again sent out to employees to help with creating a name for the new employee digital workspace. The name that was decided up was Connect. Being that the corporate brand had just been redesigned with the idea of "Always On" the Connect logo reflected that.

Design

Wireframes were then created and feedback gathered during design workshops.

Outcome

Success & Next Steps

At the beginning of this project, much research was done to justify the need to executives. After launch, they were first to congratulate the team on the success of the new platform.

Once Phase 1 launched successfully, it was time to start thinking about how to keep moving this platform forward and to continue the momentum gained during the launch. The sales team had also been struggling with not having a central repository of information, so I created a business proposal presentation which was presented to executives to state the case of the need for the investment into the next phase of this project.

Post launch additional banner graphics were created to assist the marketing and communications team.
